Batch production or continuous production – who is safer and more reliable?

Mixing, stirring, drying, tablet pressing or quantitative weighing are the basic operations of solid drug production and processing. But when cell inhibitors or hormones are involved, the whole thing is not so simple. Employees need to avoid contact with such drug ingredients, the production site needs to do a good job of product contamination protection, and cross contamination between different products should be avoided when changing products.

In the field of pharmaceutical production, batch production has always been the dominant mode of pharmaceutical production, but the allowed continuous pharmaceutical production technology has gradually appeared on the stage of pharmaceutical production. Continuous pharmaceutical manufacturing technology can avoid many cross-contamination because continuous pharmaceutical facilities are closed production facilities, the entire production process does not require human intervention. In his presentation to the Forum, Mr. O Gottlieb, Technical Advisor to NPHARMA, presented an interesting comparison between batch manufacturing and continuous manufacturing, and presented the advantages of modern continuous pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.

International Pharma also introduces what innovative device development should look like. The new mixer developed in collaboration with pharmaceutical manufacturers has no mechanical parts, but can achieve uniform mixing of silty raw materials without the high requirement of avoiding cross-contamination

Of course, the increasing number of potentially dangerous drug ingredients and the regulatory regulations related to them also have an impact on the production of drug tablets. What would a high-seal solution look like in tablet production? The Fette production manager reported on their use of standardized designs in the development of closed and WIP in situ cleaning equipment.

M’s Solutions report describes the experience of blistering machine packaging of solid form (tablets, capsules, etc.) with highly active pharmaceutical ingredients. The report focuses on technical measures for the safety protection of the blister machine operator. He described the RABS/ isolation chamber solution, which addresses the conflict between production flexibility, operator safety protection and cost, as well as different cleaning technology solutions.
