Tulathromycin

Introduction

Tulathromycin, is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent with antibacterial activity against some gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It especially sensitive to pathogens of respiratory diseases in cattle and pigs, such as Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Pasteurella haemolyticus, Pasteurella haemorrhagica, histophilus sleep (Haemophilus sleep), Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Haemophilus parasuis, Bordetella bronchiseptica, etc.

The pharmacokinetic characteristics of Tulathromycin are that after single dose administration, it is rapidly absorbed at the injection site, the effective blood concentration is maintained for a long time, the elimination is slow, the apparent distribution volume is large, the bioavailability is high, and the concentration in peripheral tissue is higher than that in plasma. Extensive tissue distribution and good cell permeability are important characteristics of Tulathromycin metabolism. Accumulation in immune cells is also an important feature of Tulathromycin.

Tulathromycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by blocking the bacterial peptide transfer process. Due to some important defects of erythromycin, people need another drug to instead of erythromycin urgently. Tulathromycin is a new kind of macrolide semi synthetic antibiotic for animals. It has many advantages, such as low dosage, one-time administration, low residue, animal specific and so on. It not only has the advantages of macrolide drugs, but also has an ultra long half-life which is superior to other macrolide antibiotics. Base on the advantage of maintain effective therapeutic concentration in the body for a long time, it can achieve better bacteriostasis and sterilization.

After extensive clinical application, tulathromycin has obvious therapeutic effect on respiratory diseases of cattle and pigs. Thanks for the excellent antibacterial activity of Tulathromycin like small dosage using, long half-life and one-time administration, it can be used widely.

Tulathromycin is stronger than the macrolides widely used in the market currently, such as tylosin, tilmicosin and florfenicol. Which has huge potential applications.

Attention to be paid that Tulathromycin is relatively safe, without carcinogenicity, teratogenicity and genotoxicity. It will not induce gene mutation, but may produce cardiotoxicity. Need to follow advise of veterinary.
