Diosmin

Introduction

Diosmin name as diosmetin 7-O-rutinoside, it’s a flavone glycoside of diosmetin, which is manufactured from citrus fruit peels as a phlebotonic non-prescription dietary supplement. It used for treating various disorders of blood vessels including hemorrhoids, varicose veins, poor circulation in the legs (venous stasis), and bleeding (hemorrhage) in the eye or gums. It is often taken in combination with hesperidin.

The characteristics of Diosmin show like below.

It has a specific affinity for the venous system and enhances the tension of the vein without affecting the arterial system.

For the microcirculation system, it can significantly reduce the adhesion and migration between leukocytes and vascular endothelial cells. It can disintegrate and release inflammatory substances, such as histamine, bradykinin, complement, leukotriene, prostaglandin and excessive free radicals, so as to reduce the permeability of capillaries and enhance their tension.

For the lymphatic system, it can enhance the contraction of lymphatic vessels and the speed of lymphatic drainage, accelerate the reflux and reduce edema.

It is suitable for acute attack of various hemorrhoids and hemorrhoids. It can also treat chronic venous insufficiency, such as varicose veins, lower limb ulcers, etc.

Usually it can be micronized which will improve the medical function.

Diosmin is also a dietary supplement used to aid treatment of hemorrhoids and venous diseases, i.e., chronic venous insufficiency including spider and varicose veins, leg swelling (edema), stasis dermatitis and venous ulcers. The mechanism of action of Diosmin and other phlebotonics is undefined, and clinical evidence of benefit is limited.

Diosmin is not recommended for treating the rectal mucosa, skin irritations, or wounds, and should not be used to treat dermatitis, eczema, or urticaria. It is not recommended for use in children or women during pregnancy as well. There is moderate-quality evidence that diosmin or other phlebotonics improved leg and ankle swelling and lower leg pain, and low-quality evidence for treating hemorrhoids.
